Longtime Kentucky Baptist pastor and leader, John Dunaway, died Wednesday, October 17, 2012 in his home in Huntsville, Alabama.
Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church, Huntsville on Saturday, October 20th at 11 a.m. Also, a memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at First Baptist Church, Corbin, Kentucky on Saturday, November 3rd at 2 p.m.
John Thomas Dunaway was born in Stanford, Kentucky on November 25, 1932. He graduated from Georgetown College in 1954, received his Masters degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1958, and his Ph.D. from the Lexington Theological Seminary in 1983.
As a minister he was pastor of several churches, including First Baptist Church in Corbin (1969-1995) and Community Baptist Church in Henderson (1995-2003). He served as President of the Kentucky Baptist Convention, as well as helped to form and name the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. Additionally, he served as Moderator of the Kentucky Baptist Fellowship and helped to found the Baptist Seminary of Kentucky, now located on the campus of Georgetown College.
