High school juniors and seniors have an opportunity to win as much as $2,000 for college in the Baptist Joint Committee’s Religious Liberty Essay Scholarship Contest. To enter, students must write an essay discussing whether religious references should be allowed on banners at school-sponsored events, such as cheerleaders' banners on the field at public school football games. The complete topic is available online. Prizes range from $250 for third place to $2,000 and a trip to Washington, D.C., for the grand prize.
