Rest and Recreate: A Free Day for Preachers at Yew Dell on April 21, 2014

The Kentucky Council of Churches has arranged to have the Yew Dell Botanical Gardens open on next Monday, the Monday immediately following Easter Sunday, as a free gift of appreciation for church leaders.

Entry for clergy will be free between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and the Kentucky Council of Churches will pick up your entry fee. We'll take your word that you are a church leader. But we'd love to collect a Sunday bulletin from each person who comes -- not as a ticket but as a memento.

The lovely Yew Dell grounds are ideal for strolling, either alone or with a friend. Picnic tables are available, so consider bringing a bag lunch.

The Council has rented the small building called "The Castle" to offer beverages and conversation to anyone who wants to stop by. Feel like chatting? Just drop in.

The Yew Dell Botanical Gardens are at 6220 Old Lagrange Road in Crestwood, KY (a bit northeast of Louisville). A good map is on this web site www.yewdellgardens.org

Many church leaders plan some self-care for the week after Easter. We know that the season of Lent and Holy Week are a time of special intensity for those who preach and care for parishes and congregations.

A stroll in a beautiful place can provide rest and recreation, a helpful dose of "health and hospitality". If spending a few minutes or a few hours at the Yew Dell Botanical Gardens can be part of your self-care, I'll be very pleased to see you there!
