New KY Field Person Commissioned

by Laura Barclay,
KBF Communications, Networking & Interim Missions Associate

Last Wednesday night over 800 people gathered in Atlanta for the CBF Co-Missioning Banquet. This was the first time that most CBF folks had the opportunity to meet Steven Porter, CBF Global Missions Coordinator,  and Gerry Hutchinson, CBF Endorser for Chaplains and Pastoral Counselors.
Chaplains, Pastoral Counselors, Church Starters and Field Personnel were commissioned at the banquet, including KBF's own Scarlette Jasper who is a rural poverty advocate in Somerset. Jasper serves with individuals and families involved in crises situations ranging from financial to medical, as well as victims of domestic violence. She is passionate about providing financial counseling and job preparedness classes in order to help transition poor into more stable environments. Jasper is also a grassroots organizer for change in these regions.

When asked why Jasper was called to explore the process of joining CBF's Field Personnel, she said:

"I was drawn to CBF's intentional inclusion of community partners and other organizations in addition to the church. We can all work together to try to address the needs of the most neglected. CBF wants to include and utilize everyone's gifts to do the work."

Attendees were invited to hold hands and join in prayers of support and encouragement for those being commissioned while family and friends laid their hands on new field personnel. Jasper was accompanied on stage by her son, Roger Jasper, pastor of KBF partner church Living Faith Baptist Fellowship in Elizabethtown.
