Worship Listening Sessions Recap & More Chances to Join In!

by Bob Fox, KBF Moderator & Pastor, Faith Baptist

When someone takes aside a leader at a meeting on the way out and says, "I've written down 40 ideas just from what I've heard today," it must have been a successful gathering.  When this response comes at the beginning of a year of conversation about worship in our churches, it promises more to come and a thoughtful creativity that will enrich the lives of KBF congregations.

At our annual gathering at the CBF meeting in Atlanta, we announced "When You Gather Together" a year-long partnership between the Baptist Seminary of Kentucky and the KBF to encourage, strengthen and inspire our churches in their ministry of worship.  The push includes not only worship conversations, but also a summit at BSK, web resources and creation of a curriculum.

Two of our four worship conversations happened this past Saturday.  At First Baptist Corbin, Dr. Greg Earwood and Dr. Dalen Jackson led the discussion.  Simultaneously, Dr. John Inscore Essick and Dr. Mark Medley were at Third Baptist Church, Owensboro where they chaired another group.

Between the two locations, almost 40 Kentucky Baptists gathered for these listening sessions designed to ask questions that helped participants learn from each other.  11 different churches were represented.  Those gathered were laity and clergy, male and female and represented the many constituencies that make up our fellowship.

I found it a personally engaging and energizing experience.  The skilled leadership of the BSK faculty and the thoughtful contributions by those present reminded me again of just how fortunate we are in Kentucky to have so many talented, capable and committed Baptists in our state.

The good news if you were unable to attend in Corbin or Owensboro is that there are two more of these worship conversations scheduled.  On Saturday, October 18, from 10-2, there will be gatherings in Louisville (Deer Park Baptist Church) and Lexington (Central Baptist).  Lunch is provided at no cost.  You can sign up for these sessions by clicking on the links provided below.

I hope to see you at our next conversation!
