Year End Missions Update: South Central, KY

By Scarlette Jasper, CBF Field Personnel

Jeremiah 29:11New International Version (NIV)
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Happy New Year everyone! I hope that you had a blessed Christmas filled with joy and the love of Christ!

I wanted to send an update on activities since my Co Missioning in June. Many changes have taken place which will allow me to work with Olive Branch Ministries full time. The Lord always has a plan for us, we just are not always aware of it.

The Board of Directors for Potentials, Inc. (whom I had been employed with) decided to finish up the grants that they had received and not apply for additional grant funding. They have limited their services and are now relying on fundraising and community donations for their revenue.  In this process they have limited their services to working with those in medical crisis only.  This will make them more effective in that service but it also limits how many staff that they can support.

Due to the financial strain that Potentials has been under, I have resigned as Assistant Director and now my relationship with Potentials is that of a valued partner with Olive Branch Ministries, my personal ministry.  This change has really opened the door for me to continue to work with those that are the most neglected and to be able to expand my work.

What an exciting time! I have been developing partnerships in McCreary County to be able to provide some financial counseling, budget and credit workshops as well as workshops on Predatory Lending.  I have been active in the CBF advocacy effort to stop Payday Lending and will continue to work with that effort into the New Year.

I have continued to work with those facing homelessness, victims of domestic violence, the elderly and those in need.  All of these efforts will continue into the New Year as I continue to work with the partners that I have and develop new partnerships throughout my service area.

I am also attending Baptist Seminary of Kentucky full time and I love it! The professors and staff are wonderful and I have made some really special friends in the process as well. What an excellent learning environment that we are blessed with here in Kentucky with BSK.

On a personal note, my daughter Amoreena was involved in a car accident over Fall Break and we had some real concerns with protruding discs, but through the grace of God her doctors think she will be fine with physical therapy. I also lost my big brother on December 11, 2014. This was personally devastating to me especially since I live so far away as was not able to get to him before he passed away. The real blessing in knowing that he was a child of God and now he is in a much better place!

As we begin this New Year, I would love the opportunity to come and share my ministry work and vision with your congregation, Sunday School class, women’s group or anyone else who may want to know more. Please feel free to call or email me to schedule a visit!

I hope you don’t mind if I share some prayer needs; please pray for the Together for Hope partnerships that I am developing, pray for the families in need that I serve and please pray for the financial wellbeing of Olive Branch Ministries.  As a CBF Partner Funded Field Personnel, financial partners are how my ministry is solely funded. I appreciate your support in 2014 and I greatly need and appreciate your support for the ministry in 2015. To make a tax deductible donation, you may send your contribution to:
