Position Openings (updated December, 2017)

Pastor, First Baptist Church, Morehead, KY (added August 2017)

First Baptist Church, located in Morehead, KY, aligned with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, is seeking a Pastor to serve our congregation and lead its ministries. We have approximately 150 active members. For the most part we are college educated, with many members holding advanced degrees. Many members and regular attenders are professionals at Morehead State University and St. Claire Regional Medical Center; others are attorneys, teachers, managers, business owners and self employed. As a congregation with a median age of approximately 50, we are working to attract more young adults and young families of our community to participate in our fellowship.

While we are proud of our Baptist heritage, we are not dogmatic; we welcome people of all faith traditions or no faith tradition. Members are accepted on profession of faith and by statement. People from other faith traditions seeking membership are not required to be re-baptized regardless of the method of their original baptism. We are an open communion church; everyone is welcome at the Lord’s Table. We are an inclusive and open fellowship.

The pastor is the leader of the pastoral ministries of the church. As such, this person will work with the deacons and congregation to encourage spiritual growth, offer pastoral care to members and others in our community, and equip members in roles as lay ministers. The pastor will also supervise the church staff, including an Associate Pastor, Choral Director, Administrative Secretary, Bookkeeper, and Custodian.

Morehead, KY, is located in eastern Kentucky, one hour east of Lexington. It is in the heart of the Daniel Boone National Forest, and offers many outdoor recreational opportunities. Morehead has big city conveniences in a small town.

Our mission statement: “We are a community of faith where all are welcome, trust is present, risks are taken, and where the gifts and graces of our Lord enable us to be the people God knows us to be.”
