Spring Gathering 2018

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As you can see from the following information, we have so many wonderful opportunities to learn and grow at the Spring Gathering this year!

It all starts on Friday afternoon at 12:00, when we have a time to eat lunch together and catch up!  Then, at 1:30, we will be blessed with a wonderful forum of folks sharing their ministry and experience from around the world!   In addition, we have outstanding breakout sessions on Saturday morning.  And finally, we end each day with worship. These are times when we get to just be with our brothers and sisters from CBF Kentucky congregations as we seek God's guidance for the coming year!

Don't miss a minute!  Plan to come at 11:30 a.m. on Friday and stay until the last "Amen" on Saturday.  Your heart will be refreshed and your soul refilled!

We look forward to seeing you!

Chris Sanders
Interim Coordinator

Breakout Workshops

Immigrants – Welcoming the Stranger (offered Sessions 1 and 2)
Leadership: Steve Clark, Annette Ellard
Speaker: Edgardo Mansilla

Come to hear about immigration and how it affects persons coming to the US.  Hear what challenges and tasks the immigrants experience as they begin a new life in a strange country.  What problems does the world create? How can we work together to solve those problems? What changes do we need to make in our thoughts and actions?

Racial Justice and Reconciliation (offered Sessions 1 and 2)
Leadership: Steve Hadden, moderator
Panel: Suzii Paynter, CBF National, Campbellsville University, Georgetown College, Empower West, Simmons College

Are we asking the right questions about racial justice and reconciliation, to get to the right answers?  Let’s find ways to connect and work across the range of faith, diversity and social justice.  Our panelists bring a wealth of experience to the conversation.

Women in Ministry, and More (Session 1)
Panelists: Lauren McDuffie and Laura Levins

Women in Ministry is in CBF’s DNA, but is still very much unfinished business.  The #MeToo movement that went high-profile in 2017 has America asking questions and seeking answers in church and culture.  And more, much more. Let’s talk!

Poverty – The Poor You Will Always Have With You? (Session 1)
Panelists: Calvary Baptist/First Baptist Corbin

Calvary Baptist, Lexington and First Baptist, Corbin are reaching out to the homeless.  Calvary has a large city to reach and looks to develop a unique ministry for their city.  Corbin is a small city with different challenges that has opened unique doors.  Come and see what you and your church can do in your special place.

Women – Trafficking (Session 2)
Presenter: Candace Hansford

Women face a challenge to use their talents and abilities in the world.  What happens when abuse becomes a factor?  What happens to someone with no support or help to get out of that cycle.  Come and see what you can do to stop this cycle and help someone.  What problems does the world create?  How can we work together to solve those problems?  What changes do we need to make in our thoughts and actions?

Extreme Build 2018  -Repair Affair Jubilee (Session 2)
Presenter:  Scarlette Jasper

Through the construction of twelve houses, CBF Kentucky has cultivated beloved community in McCreary County, Kentucky.  This year is a year of Jubilee for Extreme Build.  We will not be constructing a home from the ground up; instead we are going to focus on housing and community needs in the county.  Come and hear about the exciting Year of Jubilee and how your church can be a part.

JUNE 7-9, 2018

For a dozen years, the churches of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Kentucky have shared Jesus' mission of good news to the poor in McCreary County, Kentucky!  ExtremeBuild, a mission through CBF Kentucky, has faithfully constructed twelve houses for deserving families. Over those years, many volunteers have devoted countless hours to construction, from foundation to flowerbeds. CBF Kentucky churches have given generously in support.

This year is a Jubilee year for ExtremeBuild. We remain committed to McCreary County, but our work is a little different.  Instead of new construction, we will attend to some of the many needs in the county in existing housing. We are looking at repairing a county park, tearing down an old playground and putting up a new one and repairing a meeting area, so they can have groups meet there again.  Our ministry will be reaching out to the whole county!  In addition, we'll repair roofs, fix windows, paint walls, clean up yards, and more, as the people of McCreary County have need. As always, we'll do both skilled and supervised work for people of all ages, skill, and experience. We're calling it our Repair Affair Edition!

We will start with a dinner, orientation and assignments on Thursday night, spend two full days working, including a celebration on  Friday night.  Start talking it up in your churches.  We need you, whatever your skill level!

You can register on EventBrite.  Search for "CBF Kentucky Repair Affair 2018", in Whitley City, Kentucky," or click here.

If you have any questions, you can contact the CBF Office atoffice@cbfky.org or call us at (502)426-1931.

What do we do?

CBF Kentucky is a fellowship of churches and individuals who are committed to the Great Commission of Jesus Christ. CBF Kentucky’s mission is three-fold: 1) to help churches partner with one another and with other organizations that share a similar philosophy and goal; 2) to provide resources for churches and individuals as they do their work; and 3) to encourage involvement in missions and ministries in local communities, throughout the state, and globally.

Missions

Missions is the number one priority of CBF Kentucky.  We believe in "The Miracle of Partnerships" - a phrase coined by John Lepper during Extreme Build 2010. Taking our meager assets and combing them with the meager assets of other churches, individuals, and community leaders - we learn that God still accomplishes miracles through the works of our hands. Join us for one of our missions experiences.
