What is Together for Hope Appalachia?

Together for Hope (TFH) Appalachia is a rural development coalition, which follows the practice of asset-based community development (ABCD), believing that the key to alleviating poverty in these rural areas already exists with the people who are there. We are part of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship’s national TFH Coalition which includes 301 counties in five regions (Appalachia, Delta, Black Belt, Rio Grande Valley, and Native Lands). Fifty-seven of the TFH counties are in Appalachia—39 in Kentucky, eight in West Virginia, seven in Tennessee, two in Virginia, and one in Ohio.

The Priorities of Together for Hope are:
1. Education
2. Health & Nutrition
3. Housing & Environment
4. Social Enterprise

TFH Appalachia Participants are also encouraged to attend the Annual Brushy Fork Leadership Summit at Berea College, Kentucky, September 18-20 where TFH Appalachia will be exhibiting. You might especially be interested in the Leadership for Community Reconciliation track which explores how to bridge divides in communication in communities.

The Leadership Summit serves to build the capacity of community-based leaders and organizations in Central Appalachia. It provides the training, resources, and networking tools Appalachian leaders need to work collaboratively and address the most pressing issues facing our region.
